Purpose of this Article: This solution article provides instructions for approving a Learning Request.
Audience: Supervisors, Department Personnel Officers, and Department Finance Approvers

Learner's Managers (employee's supervisor based on Reports To information), Department Personnel Officers, and Department Finance Approvers will receive an email notification when a Learning Request is waiting for approval. Follow the steps below for instructions on how to approve a Learning Request.
Step 1. An email, like the one below, will be delivered to your inbox indicating a learning request is ready for your approval.
Step 2. After receiving the approval notification, access SF Learning through Step 2a or 2b and proceed to Step 3.
Step 2a. Access SF Learning through SF | My Portal: Click the SF Learning link in the Classes and Training menu.
Step 3. Click the My Learning tile from your Learning homepage.
Step 4. In the Pending Approvals section you will find the Learning Request to approve. Click the Details link for more information about the request.
Step 5. You are now in the Enrollment Details page, where you can learn more about the requested course by clicking the Class Name. You can also view the request's Status and approval stage.
Step 6. After reviewing the request, click the Approve button to move the request to the next level of approval.
A few things to note about approvals:
- Requests must be approved first by the Learner's Manager (employee's Supervisor), secondly by the Department Personnel Officer (DPOs), and lastly by the Department Finance Approver.
- Although there is only one approving Supervisor based on Reports To information, there could be several approvers in the approval levels of DPOs and Department Finance Approvers. However, only one individual from each approval level is required.
Step 7. If you are an approving Supervisor or DPO, you will see a confirmation of your approval, and the approval block with your name turns green with a checkmark. This marks the end of your approval process and you will receive a final confirmation email when the request is approved by all levels of approvers (see Step 11).
If you are a Department Finance Approver, proceed to Step 8.
Step 8. Department Finance Approvers must complete the Chartfields section. With the exception of Agency Field, all other attributes of the Chartfield string must be complete.
Step 9. Review the Charfield string you've entered and click the Approve button.
Step 10. You will will see a confirmation of your approval, and the approval block with your name as the Department Finance Approver turns green with a checkmark. This marks the end of your approval process and all approvers will receive a final confirmation email.
Step 11. After the Department Finance Officer's approval, all Approvers will receive a final confirmation email like the one below.
Please note: If a department has multiple DPOs or Department Finance Approvers, then each DPO and Department Finance Approver will receive an email from the workflow, even if they did not approve a request.
